What is Bunk with the Beasts?

Bunk with the Beasts is an overnight learning adventure at the Denver Zoo, designed to encourage bonding time, shared projects and special zoo experiences to create memories that will last a lifetime.  Come experience the wonder!

  • Explore the zoo with experienced guides, after hours and before the crowds!
  • Interact with some of our smaller zoo residents - animal ambassadors from our Education collection.
  • Discover amazing adaptations of nocturnal creatures, as you view them after dark with special night vision scopes!
  • Investigate topics like rain forests, animal adaptations and conservation through fun learning games and activities.

Bunk with the Beasts CampOUTS: Go Nocturnal!

Bunk!Looking for something unique and close-by to do with your family this summer?  Have a Scout group that needs an outdoor experience?  Know a local youth organization that could use an opportunity for bonding, learning, and life-long memories?  Book a Bunk with the Beasts CampOUT at Denver Zoo!

Outdoor sleepover experiences are now in full swing at our new Primate Panorama Safari Camp!  This summertime safari camp, complete with large canvas safari tents, cots, lanterns and a campfire is right in the middle of Primate Panorama.  Bunk with the Beasts CampOUTS include private tours of the zoo after hours, a cookout dinner on zoo grounds, live animal encounters, campfire stories and treats, after dark night vision tours and an actual tented sleepover outside.

When: CampOUTS are offered on Sunday-Thursday nights throughout the summer, and select weekend dates.  Contact us today to book your group in June, July, August or September. 

Cost:  $65 per child - one chaperone for every 10 kids free - additional chaperones are $55
          Includes dinner, campfire treats, full breakfast and CampOUT souvenir.

Family Bunks

Bunk!It’s a Jungle Out There Family Bunk
Friday, April 2  6pm-10am

Celebrate Spring Break as you put on your adventurer’s hat and gear up for this journey deep into the heart of the jungle!  Explore a tropical cave, dense rainforest and mangrove swamp.  Look for animals that scurry along the forest floor, rumble through the understory or climb to the canopy.  Learn how these lush environments factor into our daily lives, and what you can do to help protect them.

Who:  Kids ages 6 and up, with parent or
          adult family members. 
Cost:  $45 per member, $48 per non-member. Includes a pizza dinner, evening snack and full breakfast.

What to Expect on a Family Bunk

Group Bunks

howlWho: School groups and other youth
organizations with children ages 6-12.

When:  All overnights are 6:30 p.m-10 a.m. We are now registering for Winter and Spring 2010 dates.
Group Bunks are available September-May, with sleeping accommodations in the comfort of the Gates Education Center. Also check out our new summer-only CampOUT experiences for groups, above!

Cost:  $45 per child.  1 chaperone per every 10 children is FREE.  Additional chaperones are $35.  Evening snack and full breakfast included.  Scholarships are available!

Register and attend a Group or Scout Bunk in February or March and receive $5 off each child and adult admission price.  Please mention this discount on your registration form to receive the discounted price. 

Topics: Explore the wilds of Africa in our Africa: Predator vs. Prey bunk, travel to the tropics to discover Rainforest Wonders, or bring your teen groups to learn about zoo careers in our special Zoo Careers bunk. Rainforest Wonders

Investigate the layers of the rain forest, as you travel from the forest floor up through the canopy. Learn about the amazing animals that inhabit dense tropical jungles, the interconnection of species, and how important conservation efforts are to these beautiful but fragile environments.
Africa: Predator vs. Prey
Your zoo safari will bring you face to face with predator and prey! Discover their adaptations for tracking the herd or escaping the hunt. Prowl with the pride and run with the pack as you view lions, wild dogs, banded mongoose and other residents of the majestic African savanna.

Zoo Careers

Thinking about becoming a zoo keeper or animal trainer?  Get the inside scoop on what it’s like to work at the zoo!  Learn about the daily tasks of keepers and trainers, try your hand at a few, and see if you’re really ready to join the crew at the zoo.

Scout Bunks

Who:
Cub Scouts, Brownie Girl Scouts or Junior Girl Scouts with chaperones

What: Scouts, join us for custom-designed overnights just for you!  All the fun and adventure of other Bunk with the Beasts overnight adventures, plus activities, tours and crafts that meet badge or achievement requirements.  These overnights are held on zoo grounds, with sleeping accommodations inside, at the Gates Education Center.  For summer CampOUT experiences, please refer to the CampOUT section above.

When: All overnights are 6 pm-10 am 
We are now registering for Spring and Summer 2010 dates. Please call or check the dates below for availability.


Cost: $48 per scout.  1 chaperone per every 10 children is FREE.  Additional chaperones are $38 per person.  Pizza dinner, evening snack, full breakfast and Bunk with the Beasts patch included.

CUB SCOUT BUNKS

Cub Scouts, do you dare to sleep on the wild side?  Join us for our exciting Cub Scout Bunk, designed just for you!  At our overnight adventures you’ll get to explore the zoo at night, have live animal encounters, and participate in activities, tours and crafts that meet advancement requirements.  A chance to spend time together, learn something new and have a roaring good time!


For the Birds
Cub Scouts, consider a summer CampOUT experience!  Check the CampOUT section above for information on our exciting new Primate Panorama Safari Camp!  You can book a date for the “Go Nocturnal” CampOUT theme, or the “For the Birds” theme described below. Many summer dates available!


This bunk will focus on birds, birds, birds!  You and your pack will be birds of a feather as you stick together to learn about our fabulous flighted friends.  Make a bird feeder, learn to identify birds, migrate with a flock, discover nests, and meet a raptor up close! 
This bunk will meet the requirements of:

            Tiger Cub Elective 32
            Wolf Cub Elective 13
            Bear Cub Achievement 5
            Webelos Naturalist Badge

Rainforest Wonders
