Keeper Experience Program at Denver Zoo

Bring your enthusiasm for animals and your interest in learning about zoo keeping with you for this unique Denver Zoo Keeper Experience! Participants will meet an Education Animal Zookeeper and begin the day with behind the scenes tours of our education animal collections. After the tour, participants will try their hand at zookeeper responsibilities by participating in two or more of the following activities:

  • Preparing animal diets
  • Helping to weigh and care for animals
  • Taking part in animal training
  • Assisting with animal demonstrations or shows
  • And of course, everyone’s favorite - cleaning!
Who: Anyone aged 9-adult with a passion to learn about animals and their care.

When: Limited availability – call early for best selections. Only one participant per date.

Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm

Cost: Members - $225.  Non-members - $250 (zoo admission is included)

What to wear: Closed-toed shoes, a comfortable shirt, and pants or shorts. Dress for the weather! Portions of our program may be held outside even in inclement weather.
Please wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, as the job of a zookeeper involves lots of cleaning.

What to bring: A water bottle, your confirmation sheet, and your camera (photo opportunities will be provided)

Please note: The focus of the program is an in-depth exploration of a zookeeper’s job; limited direct contact with live animals will be involved.

How to register: Please call 303-376-4808 to register or for more information about the program.

Cancellation fees:  A cancellation fee of 50% will be charged for cancelling with less than two week’s notice. A cancellation fee of 100% will be charged for a missed program.
