OUTREACH AND AT THE ZOO MINICLASSES

Presentations that provide zoo resources and expertise in unique ways.

Where:   At the Zoo
Who:     Up to 30 participants
When:   Dates and start times vary
             (Available August – May)
Length: 30 minutes
Cost:     $3.75/student; Smaller groups will be charged for a minimum of 15 students

             offered year round
Cost:     $75 each class



Things To Know:

  • Please register at least three weeks in advance (requested dates are guaranteed upon confirmation by Denver Zoo).
  • Outreach Only - Miniclass room policies
  • Outreach Only - Travel fees apply outside of SCFD.
  • Outreach Only - Layover fees apply to breaks exceeding 60 minutes between programs.
  • Scholarships are available through Denver Zoo's Red Apple Fund.

  • Cancellation of Programs
    Classes and programs canceled or rescheduled with less than 2 weeks notice prior to the scheduled program will be charged 50% of the total cost. Red Apple Scholarship awards will not apply to cancellation fees.


Animal Tales 
(ECE ages 3 & up – Grade 1)
Standards: Science K-2: 1.1, 3.1; Reading and Writing 4

  • Listen to fun and engaging stories about our animal friends.
  • Meet two live animals from these stories.

Animals in Art (Grades 1-12, and Adults)
Science K-2:  3.1
Science 3-5:  3.1
Visual Arts 2, 3

  • The Zoo will bring two live animals to use as models for visual art projects.
  • Learn fun facts about animals as Zoo instructors link science and art concepts.
  • Teachers must provide art instruction and art supplies.

Creature Feature: Critters (ECE ages 3 & up – Grade 8)
Science K-2:  1.1, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5

Science 3-5:  3.1, 3.5, 3.8

  • Meet two live animals up close!
  • Compare and contrast animals such as amphibians, birds, invertebrates, mammals, or reptiles.
  • Zoo representatives will share information about the animal's classification, habitat and special adaptations.

Creature Feature: Invertebrates (Grades 1-8)
Science K-2:  1.1, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5

Science 3-5:  3.1, 3.5, 3.8

  • Meet three live invertebrate animals up close!
  • Zoo representatives will share information about the animal's classification, habitat and special adaptations.

Creature Feature: Mammals (ECE ages 3 & up – Grade 8)
Science K-2:  1.1, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5

  • Meet two live mammals up close!
  • Zoo representatives will share information about the animal's classification, habitat and special adaptations.

Creature Feature: Reptiles (ECE ages 3 & up – Grade 8)

  • Meet two live reptiles up close!
