Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Q: When will I receive confirmation of my request?
A: The Denver Zoo aims to address all registrations within a week of their submission.

Q: How can I make the Zoo visit most affordable?
A: Talk to fellow organizers/teachers.  Denver Zoo offers discounted programs booked consecutively on the same day at the same location. You can also apply for a Red Apple scholarship when you submit your request.

Q: Do I qualify for a Red Apple scholarship?
A: Each scholarship is evaluated on an individual basis.  You will be required to submit an explanation of your financial need.  Include information such as percentage of free and reduced lunch, special circumstances, nonprofit status of facility. Submit your Red Apple scholarship application online at the time of the request.

Q: Can Red Apple scholarships pay travel fees?
A: If approved, your red apple scholarship will be applied to the total cost of our program, including travel and layover fees.  Red Apple scholarships can be awarded up to 90% of total cost.

Q: How do I request programs on different dates?
A: You will need to submit separate registrations for each date.

Q: Can I book a program in the evening or on a weekend?
A.  Denver Zoo will attempt to accommodate all requests.  Evening and weekend programs can be more difficult to schedule, registering farther in advance will increase the likelihood of getting your desired date.

Q: How do I register for a Community Leadership Project?
A:  Paper registration forms and Red Apple Scholarships specific to Community Leadership Project can be down loaded at http://www.denverzoo.org/education/clp.asp or select the Service Learning link on the main outreach program page.   Currently you cannot register online.

Q: How much are travel fees?
A: There are no travel fees inside SCFD counties (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Brookfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson). Outside those areas the charge is correlated to miles from the zoo.

One way from the zoo:
Up to 60 miles:   $40
61-100:              $75
101-140:            $120
141-180:            $180
181-220:            $220
221-260:            $330
261-300 miles:    $440

Q: What is a layover fee?
A: If you are booking multiple programs on the same day, please limit the times between programs. You can have 1 hour free between programs, but will be charged $25 a hour after that.   EX For three programs scheduled at 9 am, 10 am and 2 pm you will have a $50 layover fee.

Q: The class I want to select is not appearing as an option. Why?
A: The online registration system automatically limits program selections based on age groups. Visit http://www.denverzoo.org/education/outreachPrograms.asp for program information.

Q: What animals will I see in the program?
A: Due to the nature of live animals we cannot guarantee any specific animals. You can put requests in the Notes section and we will accommodate if possible.

Q: Can we touch the animals?
A: Almost every program includes a touchable animal.  Instructors will guide participants in methods of safely touching one or more of the program animals.

Q: Can we have an outdoor program?
A: All programs should take place indoors unless otherwise discussed with our outreach coordinator. Exceptions may be permitted with advance coordination.  All exceptions remain dependant on temperature and weather conditions.

Q: Is there a minimum age for your programs?
A:  All participants must be three years old or older.

Q: When and how can I pay for programs?
A: Payment is due the day of the program. You can use a credit card, cash or check (made out to Denver Zoological Foundation-Outreach).  Receipts are included in your confirmation packet or can be obtained from your educator.
