Welcome to Denver Zoo's College Internship Program!

Denver Zoo’s internships give students the opportunity to use their classroom knowledge in a zoo setting.  Rather students are working with the animals, maintaining zoo grounds or assisting with public events, Denver Zoo’s staff is committed to teaching and guiding our interns by advancing their skills and giving them valuable first hand experience.

Denver Zoo's summer internship process begins in January, when we begin to accept applications. Summer internships generally begin in May and conclude in August.  Paid internships are funded through the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District.   Non-paid internship opportunities (if available) are offered in the fall and winter months.

Internships are offered in the following departments:

Conservation Biology

The mission of Denver Zoo’s Department of Conservation Biology is to engage in scientific programs which make meaningful contributions to the conservation of animals and their ecosystems.  This department oversees the support of in situ (in the wild) and ex situ (at the Zoo) conservation projects. Since the inception of the Department, the Denver Zoo has been involved in more than 400 conservation and research projects in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, Central America, and South America.
