Witness for Wildlife 2009 Pilot Program
July 20, or Friday, August 28
Citizen Naturalist volunteers are needed! Denver Zoo and Center for Native Ecosystems are bringing volunteers into the Herman Gulch wildlife corridor through a pilot version of Freedom to Roam’s Witness for Wildlife program. The Herman Gulch wildlife corridor is an important linkage area for several wildlife species in Colorado, including the threatened Canada lynx and the imperiled boreal toad. Protecting existing roadway permeability and creating new opportunities to ensure habitat connectivity in areas like the Herman Gulch wildlife corridor are critical for sustaining wildlife populations in the Southern Rockies region.
In just a short drive from Denver, volunteers will experience the importance of landscape connectivity and the drastic effects habitat fragmentation can have on wildlife species. Together with Center for Native Ecosystems and Denver Zoo staff, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Herman Gulch wildlife corridor to gather information and observations on this important habitat. As a Citizen Naturalist volunteer, you can join us for one of three trips this summer: June 25, July 20, or August 28. Each Witness for Wildlife trip will visit one of several strenuous trails in the Herman Gulch wildlife corridor, such as the Herman Gulch trail, the Watrous Gulch trail, or the Grizzly Gulch trail. Each trip is limited to 6 participants.
For more information or to reserve your space as a volunteer Citizen Naturalist, contact Amy Masching at amasching@denverzoo.org or 303-376-4935.
