Learn

As a leader in conservation education, we understand that experiencing AWE is often the first step in becoming an ally! From Nature Play and Safari Camps to school field trips and Zoo-to-You classroom visits, we cultivate wonder on a daily basis.

🐸 Earlier this month, our team returned to the high country near Leadville, Colorado to release 300 boreal toadlets into a montane wetland habitat, an important step in the recovery of a species now estimated to number fewer than 800 adults in the wild.

Thanks to our partnership with @coparkswildlife and the dedication of our conservation, animal care, and veterinary teams, we're breeding and reintroducing this State-Endangered amphibian in carefully selected sites across the Rockies.

Every release helps secure a future for this vulnerable species. Learn more about this year’s release and how you can get involved as a community scientist through our Team Toad initiative. Link in bio.

🦈 It’s #SharkAwarenessDay!

While sharks are often misunderstood, these fascinating fish are essential to the health of our oceans. In Tropical Discovery, you can come face-to-fin with epaulette sharks, which are a small, nocturnal species known for their ability to walk across the seafloor using their fins!

Looking for more underwater excitement? Swing by Stingray Cove™️ , where you can learn even more about marine life and the importance of healthy ocean ecosystems.

👑 Meet Indy, the queen of our Forest Aviary!

At 45 years old, Indy the Egyptian vulture is one of the longest-lived birds at the Zoo and has called our campus home for more than 40 years, longer than Primate Panorama has even existed!

Egyptian vultures are one of the only bird species known to use tools. While she now receives daily care for arthritis and no longer participates in formal training, she enjoys a peaceful, enriched life where she chooses how she wants to spend each day, thanks to the love and attention of her Animal Care team.

Be sure to stop by the Primate Panorama Forest Aviary and see if you can spot Indy soaking up the morning sun or enjoying the misters on a hot day. ☀️
