👑 Meet Indy, the queen of our Forest Aviary!
At 45 years old, Indy the Egyptian vulture is one of the longest-lived birds at the Zoo and has called our campus home for more than 40 years, longer than Primate Panorama has even existed!
Egyptian vultures are one of the only bird species known to use tools. While she now receives daily care for arthritis and no longer participates in formal training, she enjoys a peaceful, enriched life where she chooses how she wants to spend each day, thanks to the love and attention of her Animal Care team.
Be sure to stop by the Primate Panorama Forest Aviary and see if you can spot Indy soaking up the morning sun or enjoying the misters on a hot day. ☀️

Hot off the griddle—our baby pancake tortoise has a name! 🥞
We teamed up with @todayshow to help find the perfect pancake-themed name for our new Critically Endangered pancake tortoise and the votes are in! A whopping 3,437 people cast their votes, and Maple came out on top!
Maple is the first of her species to hatch at DZCA and joins her mom, Waffles, along with three male tortoises—Short-Stack, Denny, and Flapjack—as part of our Animal Ambassador program.

Earlier this month, we were honored to host a very special penguin encounter decades in the making. At 96 years old, Doris Garcia finally fulfilled a lifelong dream of meeting penguins thanks to a heartfelt collaboration between DZCA and Compassionate Hospice Care. 🐧
In the 1950s, she was preparing for a research trip to Antarctica, only to be told she couldn’t go because she was a woman. While she never made it to Antarctica, we were proud to help bring that dream full circle with a special penguin encounter at Pinnacol African Penguin Point, presented by @pinnacol. Though she was meeting a species of penguin found on a different continent, Doris was finally in the company of the birds she’s held close to her heart for all these years.
