Los peces payaso son peque\u00f1os y ser\u00edan presa de peces m\u00e1s grandes si no vivieran dentro y estuvieran protegidos por los tent\u00e1culos de la an\u00e9mona. El pez payaso est\u00e1 cubierto con una mucosa especializada que le da inmunidad contra las c\u00e9lulas de la picadura de la an\u00e9mona hu\u00e9sped. El grupo consiste en una pareja reproductora dominante que cohabita con algunos peces payaso adultos y juveniles no reproductivos. Luego, la hembra pone entre 300 y 700 huevos en el \u00e1rea rocosa debajo de la an\u00e9mona hu\u00e9sped. Los huevos son cuidados por el macho que los abanica habitualmente, haciendo circular el agua y aumentando el suministro de ox\u00edgeno. Limpia los escombros y se lleva los huevos a la boca, eliminando los huevos muertos. Los huevos eclosionan por la noche despu\u00e9s de seis a siete d\u00edas de incubaci\u00f3n. Las cr\u00edas, llamadas &quot;alevines&quot;, son todas machos y diminutas (una d\u00e9cima de pulgada o 3-4 mm). Los alevines de pez payaso se alejan flotando, uni\u00e9ndose al plancton que viaja con las corrientes oce\u00e1nicas. Despu\u00e9s de 15 d\u00edas de flotar, comer y crecer, est\u00e1n listos para unirse con una an\u00e9mona hu\u00e9sped. Los peces payaso juveniles viven y se alimentan principalmente alrededor de los m\u00e1rgenes de los tent\u00e1culos de una an\u00e9mona.
