A variety of guided tours are available for school groups 1st grade and up. Trained volunteer docents will lead your group on a journey to explore the wonders of animals and the living world. All tours are aligned with Colorado Model Content State Standards. A minimum of 10 students are required to schedule a tour. All groups are required to have one adult chaperone per 10 students. A maximum of two adults may join a tour group; we ask that additional adults enjoy the zoo on their own and meet up with the school group after the tour finishes. Denver Zoo recommends tours for 1st – 3rd grade students last 1.5 hours and tours for students 4th grade and older last 2 hours. Programs are designed with specific curriculum for each grade level.
Initiated by a Denver Zoo Docent Volunteer, a Veteran of World War II, this program was designed to honor and support a new generation of veterans and their families. These free, 90-minute guided tours will engage families of veterans in a fun-filled day exploring Denver Zoo together. Tours are free and participants in the tour receive discounted zoo admission; veterans are free and other family members are $6 per person. Military ID required. Advance registration of at least four days and pre-payment is required. Availability is limited. Call 720-337-1494 with the contact name, phone number, preferred date, number in the immediate family and ages of children participating. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. and end by noon. 24-hour advance cancelation notice is required for a refund.
Enjoy an exclusive experience with a Denver Zoo penguin for a day you will never forget. Purchase this exciting upgrade to your visit and meet a penguin up-close, get a guided tour of Bird World, presented by Frontier Airlines, and learn how zoo staff cares for birds that live at Denver Zoo. This 60 minute program is $60 per person in addition to your general admission and is available for guest 6 years and older.

Next, your group will go behind the scenes with the animals in our education collection and the Wildlife Theater. You will get to meet the animal stars up close and participate in a feeding or training demonstration. Finish your tour at Tropical Discovery, where your VIP access lets you learn how keepers care for some amazing reptiles, amphibians and fish. This tour is designed for ages 3 and up for an insider’s look at some of the zoo’s most popular attractions. Registration for a group of four starts at $225 for members and $250 for nonmembers. Additional guests may be added for $45 per guest, with a maximum of eight. Gift certificates are available!
Find out what it is like to be a zookeeper with a unique upgrade to your zoo visit. Bring your enthusiasm for animals and your interest in learning about zookeeping for the Zookeeper Experience! Participants will meet a zookeeper from our education animal collection and try their hand at being a keeper. Our keepers-for-a-day will get to try two or more of the following activities: Preparing animal diets Helping to weigh and care for animals Taking part in animal training Assisting with animal demonstrations or shows And of course, everyone’s favorite - cleaning! This three hour program has limited availability and is $250 for non-members and $225 for Denver Zoo members. This exclusive experience is designed for ages 9 and up with a passion to learn about animals and their care.
