World Elephant Day

Come help celebrate World Elephant Day on August 12 by getting to know more about your local elephants and their wild cousins. You can learn about how we care for them at Denver Zoo, why they are endangered, how you can help elephants at home and the great conservation efforts that are being done to save them. Help us, along with 96Elephants and fellow AZA organizations, in an official attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the LARGEST display of origami elephants. Comedy Night for Conservation

Join the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers on August 21st from 6pm to 9:30pm for our 16th Annual Comedy Night!  Returning to Denver Zoo for a night of laughs and entertainment, all while supporting conservation and your local animal keepers!

Come and enjoy a buffet dinner and cocktails while listening to a string duo and DJ performance by Suite Talk.  Visit with Denver Zoo Animal Ambassadors while bidding on one-of-a-kind items at our silent auction.  The night will conclude with a live auction and laughs with comedian Chris Voth.

Net proceeds will benefit conservation and animal keeper professional development.

Mike’s Camera – Lens & Camera Demo Day

Enjoy complimentary loaner equipment from Mike’s Camera and test out the latest gear from your favorite manufacturers, including cameras and exotic telephoto lenses.  Staff from Mike’s Camera will offer pointers and you can visit “Picture Points” throughout the Zoo to attach your camera to zoom lenses for great close-ups.

Teddy Bear Clinic

Bring your stuffed animals and their kid caretakers to our third annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Saturday, September 17, presented in partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado. Families can walk around the Zoo to different stations where volunteers and staff will provide “medical” procedures for stuffed animals while educating young guests about healthy habits. Guests will also learn about the excellent care zookeepers and veterinarians provide the animals here at the Zoo and get to meet Elbert, the Zoo and Children’s Hospital Colorado’s mascot, at the Zoo’s Explore the Shore Play Area, Presented by Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Food Truck Safari: Nautical Nibbles

Join us for Denver’s wildest happy hour, an adults-only preview night of Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea. The $17 ticket includes the opportunity to meet the artist behind these beautiful large-scale sculptures made entirely out of trash. The happy hour will feature food trucks scattered throughout the Zoo, as well as live acoustic music. Don’t miss the last chance to preview our new travelling exhibit before it opens to the public the following morning.

No guests under 21 years of age will be admitted (including infants).

Washed Ashore

Denver Zoo is excited to announce that it will host the traveling exhibit, “Washed Ashore, Art To Save The Sea,” this fall. This amazing exhibit, which will run from September 24, 2016 to January 16, 2017, features 15 giant sculptures of sea life made almost entirely from trash collected from beaches. Developed by the non-profit group The Washed Ashore Project, the exhibit is meant to create awareness about marine debris and plastic pollution though art. The exhibit will be open for the public to enjoy daily, weather pending and will be free with regular admission.

Washed Ashore Grand Opening Day

This is the official grand opening for our traveling exhibit Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea. Washed Ashore features 15 large-scale sculptures of aquatic animals made entirely out of trash that will be on exhibit in various locations around Denver Zoo. The lead artist and director, Angela Haseltine Pozzi, uses art as a call to action encouraging people to clean up the oceans. Meet Angela at the grand opening event, and see if you can find all 15 sculptures during your visit.

This event is included in the price of regular Zoo admission.

Washed Ashore Beach Party

Come to the grand opening of Washed Ashore and stay with us through the evening for night-viewing of the sculptures! There will be additional activities and kid-friendly entertainment throughout the Zoo, as well as a meet and greet with the artist. Ticket not included with regular Zoo admission.

Scout Night

Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and their families are invited to Denver Zoo for a special after-hours event that meets scout requirements. Delve into the amazing adaptations of nocturnal animals as you watch the sunset and explore Denver Zoo at night. Learn about the zoo’s conservation efforts, discover fascinating facts about the animals and go wild for games and activity stations created just for scouts! Scout Night also features up-close animal encounters, free carousel rides, crafts, entertainment, and a 2016 Scout Night commemorative patch! This year scouts can enjoy after-hours access to our new temporary exhibit, Washed Ashore, Art To Save The Sea, discovering evocative art made from marine debris, and exploring how we can all do our part to protect our waterways.

Mike's Camera Zoo Lights Photo Safari

A photography workshop with emphasis on making the most while exploring Exposure Value to achieve more pleasing photographs and Painting with Light for creative control.

Start your evening off with a lecture on Exposure Value, and Painting with light techniques. You’ll learn how to photograph the Zoo Lights utilizing the various combinations of ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture to manipulate your exposure and capture truly brilliant photographs just in time for the Holidays!
