Meet Dune, Mojave and Zion! 🤎
Our three desert bighorn rams have officially been named by our dedicated animal care team, and each name is inspired by the rugged landscapes they call home in the wild.
Dune, the largest and oldest at eight years old was named for the towering mounds of sand that shape the desert. Mojave, or Mo, is six and his name is a nod to the Mojave Desert and Mojave National Preserve, where desert bighorn sheep roam. Last but not least, four-year-old Zion`s name honors Zion National Park, part of their native range and a site of successful reintroduction after the species was extirpated there in the 1960s.
Each ram has his own unique features and personality: Dune has an underbite and the largest horns, Mojave has a friendly face and a busted horn tip, and Zion is the smallest, more timid and tends to keep to himself.
Dune, Mojave and Zion are settling in wonderfully to their new home! Be sure to stop by on your next visit to welcome them to DZCA and learn more about this amazing species and the conservation work helping protect them in the wild.

👏 Slow clap! 👏 We’re delighted to share that a healthy Linne’s two-toed sloth pup was born at Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance on Thursday, June 19! This is mom Charlotte and dad Elliot’s fifth baby here at DZCA, and this successful birth is another exciting conservation win for the slow-moving species!
Charlotte and her adorable new addition are thriving in their Tropical Discovery home and baby is strong, healthy and nursing like a pro. While Elliot moved to Emerald Forest to give Charlotte and baby space to acclimate, Charlotte has access to the public-facing part of her treetop habitat, so you may be able to catch a glimpse of mama and her tiny bundle during your next visit the Zoo!
Because sloths have internal reproductive organs, a DNA test is needed to determine the sex of this new arrival. Be sure to stay tuned for an update on baby’s sex and name. In the meantime, you can get your baby sloth fix with our latest Baby Bulletin, presented by @intermountain. 🦥
