Learn

As a leader in conservation education, we understand that experiencing AWE is often the first step in becoming an ally! From Nature Play and Safari Camps to school field trips and Zoo-to-You classroom visits, we cultivate wonder on a daily basis.

🌍💚 Today on #WorldWildlifeConservationDay, we’re celebrating the many ways our work at Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance cultivates and protects biodiversity, right here on our campus, across Colorado, and around the world.

Every visit to DZCA opens a window into the wonder of wildlife. When guests connect with the animals in our care, gain empathy for their stories, and learn how to take action, that connection becomes one of the most powerful drivers of conservation. It’s at the core of our vision: a world where wildlife thrives.

To support that mission, our teams work every day to ensure exceptional animal wellbeing and advance the science of wildlife care, including:
🧬 Species Survival Plans (SSPs) that maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations
🔬 Research and scientific innovation that informs global conservation
🐾 Behavioral care, enrichment, and training that allow animals to thrive and inspire

Beyond our gates, we collaborate with partners to protect species and landscapes, from boreal toads in the Rockies and bison on Colorado’s grasslands, African lion populations, to Sumatran rainforest wildlife and endangered amphibians in South America.

Saving wildlife takes all of us. And every moment of wonder, curiosity, and connection here at DZCA helps build a future where animals, ecosystems, and communities can thrive together.

💚 Join us in celebrating wildlife today and every day.

✨ Ever wondered how three million lights bring the Zoo to life each winter? Our Resident Zoo Lights Expert, Lauren, shared a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

Each section is uniquely themed, from a Colorado Christmas to the neon-bright Electric Jungle and even occasional design choices from our local squirrel population. 🐿️

Zoo Lights is a labor of love nearly five months in the making, and we can’t wait to share the magic with you this season. ✨

Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance will be CLOSED during normal daytime hours on Wednesday, December 3 due to the continued snow. The majority of our animals will need to remain in their indoor habitats for their safety and comfort, and we will therefore not be able to provide an optimal daytime experience for our guests.

PLEASE NOTE: DZCA will OPEN for Zoo Lights tonight from 4:30-9 p.m. ❄️✨
