Who We Are

As one of Colorado’s most vital cultural cornerstones, Denver Zoo is dedicated to providing the communities we serve with an intimate, inspiring and informative first-hand encounter with the wonders of nature. But, while we proudly provide families with an accessible and inviting place to connect with wildlife—and one another—we’re so much more than that, too.

Our 80-acre campus is an enchanting urban field station, where 2,500+ wonderful animals serve as ambassadors for their wild counterparts all over the world. Our award-winning education and outreach teams spark curiosity for learners of all ages throughout metropolitan Denver. In addition, our global Field Conservation and Emergency Wildlife Response teams have worked tirelessly for more than two decades to protect species threatened by human encroachment, habitat loss and catastrophic events.

As a non-profit organization, we rely on your support through memberships, visits and donations to instigate action on behalf of our endangered Earth, first by igniting AWE in our visitors. That’s why we’re more devoted than ever to our living our mission—Inspiring Communities to Save Wildlife for Future Generations—each and every day. The survival we ensure may be our own.

Filming, Photography & Media Policies

We welcome the opportunity to work with credentialed journalists from broadcast, print and online outlets on stories about Denver Zoo. Members of the media must get in touch with our communications team at least 72 hours prior to visiting the Zoo (unless the circumstances require shorter notice) and be accompanied by a Denver Zoo employee at all times while on Zoo grounds. We reserve the right to set guidelines and limitations in regards to filming and photography to ensure the safety of our animals, employees, and guests. To arrange a visit to Denver Zoo to film or conduct interviews, or request photos, please contact Jake Kubié.

  • Personal Photography

All photographs and other forms of artistic renderings made for contest entries, or personal, recreational or educational use are always permitted without any fee or special permission. Guests must always pay for admission and are asked to avoid obstructing or interfering with the enjoyment of other guests, such as blocking viewing areas or public pathways.

  • Commercial Filming

Denver Zoo is an ideal location to accommodate film shoots, documentaries and photo shoots for your commercial needs. Please note that all images captured at Denver Zoo are the property of the Denver Zoological Foundation and any commercial use or profit-making from the images requires permission from the Zoo (all of the animals at Denver Zoo are the private property of the Denver Zoological Foundation and their images are therefore under copyright protection and cannot be sold without our consent). The commercial use of photographs, video and film taken at the Zoo is strictly prohibited without the full written consent of Denver Zoo. To learn more about Denver Zoo’s Commercial Filming program, please contact us at commercial@denverzoo.org.

Happy birthday, Tavi and Kelele! 🎂

Our spotted hyenas celebrated their June birthdays in style today with an outdoor picnic courtesy of their Animal Care team, complete with a lamb carcass, goat milk flowers, fresh cut fruit, and whipped cream for dessert, all laid out on a hand-painted gingham tablecloth.

Guests got to watch the matriarchal dynamic play out in real time: since hyenas are a female-dominant species, Tavi commanded the meal, with Kelele deferring to her on food and resources. Guests also got to watch them engage in their natural caching behavior where they hide their food to eat later. 🦴

Come visit Pahali Ya Simba and see this incredible duo in person!
