🌼🐝 It’s #PollinatorWeek, and we’re celebrating the tiny but mighty creatures that keep ecosystems thriving! From bees and butterflies to hummingbirds and beetles, pollinators play a vital role in healthy habitats—and our Horticulture team works hard to ensure they have a place to thrive right here on campus.
As Allie Byrd Skaer, our Curator of Horticulture, puts it:
“Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance Horticulture supports our wildlife conservation mission by creating and maintaining awe-inspiring, engaging, and life-enriching plant displays, exhibits, and gardens... Our ecological approach aims to support native and migrating invertebrate and bird species, showcase the beauty of nature, and exemplify best practices for gardening for wildlife.”
🐞🌸 Through initiatives like Pollinator Pathways, we`re working to create safe, resource-rich spaces for pollinators both on Zoo grounds and in our local community. Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to stop and smell the native wildflowers on your next visit!

It’s #WorldCrocDay! 🐊
Crocodiles have been roaming the Earth for over 200 million years and today, we’re celebrating these prehistoric predators and their lookalike reptile relatives!
At Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, you can meet some of the coolest crocs around.
In Predator Ridge, spot our African dwarf crocodile, Jino, one of the smallest crocodilian species.
In Tropical Discovery, see Daphne, our Critically Endangered Siamese crocodile, who at 65, is the oldest animal at the Zoo. Plus two lizard species that share the “croc” name: the crocodile monitor and the Chinese crocodile lizard.
Swing by to see these incredible reptiles up close and learn what makes crocs such powerful, resilient animals.

We`re sending elephant-sized birthday wishes to our friends at @houstonzoo and their Endangered Asian elephant, Thailand, who turns 60 today! Thai is the oldest breeding male elephant and the second-oldest male in The Association of Zoos and Aquariums` population in North America. 🐘
Here at Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, we’re especially excited to celebrate this milestone because two of Thai’s sons, Baylor and Duncan, call Toyota Elephant Passage home. Our Animal Care Specialists marked this occasion with a special training session for the boys and custom tie-dyed shirts in Thai’s honor.
We also want to shoutout Houston Zoo and Thai for giving Baylor and Duncan such a strong foundation! With Groucho continuing Thai`s work, we`re proud to be part of their journey as they grow into incredible adult bulls who are confident and capable.
From Baylor, Duncan and the whole DZCA family, Happy Birthday, Thai! 💚
