What could be better than Sprout, soccer and a Denver Summit FC win? ⚽🐫✨
Sprout, our six-year-old Bactrian camel, loves to play with her camel-sized soccer ball, an enrichment item that helps keep her happy, healthy and thriving.
And just like Sprout loves her enrichment ball, we love celebrating our local teams! From Sprout and all of us at DZCA, we’re sending a huge congrats to @denversummit_fc on their first home win in franchise history this weekend. Summit up! 🌈💛💚🏔️
Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is partnering with local residents to create connected pollinator gardens that support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Participants receive free Colorado native flowers, planters, and planting support to help create habitat right at home.
✅ Who can participate?
Residents who live in ZIP codes 80205 or 80216, or within the Villa Park neighborhood, are eligible for the 2026 program year.

🌱 What does the program entail?
The program runs during the Colorado growing season. Participants care for the plants at their own homes, with optional workshops, newsletters, and online engagement throughout the season.

Talk about a zoo-prise! On Monday evening, Conservation Learning Coordinator Luis stopped by to say goodnight to our Cape buffalo herd, a nightly routine he does with his favorite animals at the Zoo. But this time, he noticed something was different; Rain, our 18-year-old Cape buffalo, appeared to be in labor.
Because we have teams dedicated to caring for the Zoo around the clock, Luis was able to call Disa and Erin, two Night Animal Care Specialists on duty, who quickly arrived to help move Rain indoors, allowing better monitoring of her progress throughout labor.
Later that evening, Rain welcomed a healthy male calf alongside dad, Boots, and the rest of the herd. This newest arrival marks an exciting addition to one of the few Cape buffalo herds that can be found in zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
Rain is proving to be a calm and experienced mom, while Boots has been curiously keeping an eye on his first calf. Thanks to Luis’ nightly visit and the quick action of our overnight care teams, both mom and calf are doing great, and guests may even spot the little one in the habitat with the rest of the herd, weather permitting.
