Self-Guided Field Trips

*Denver Zoo does not offer discounted self-guided field trips from June-August. If you're looking to visit during these months, please click here to make a reservation for your group.
Select weeks in March and April are not offered to accommodate guests during spring break. Check back for specific dates.

If you must cancel or reschedule a reserved field trip, please allow as much notice as possible so that another school may attend. Email to cancel or reschedule your field trip.


Scholarships for self-guided field trips are only awarded for visits scheduled September - March.
Denver Zoo has a limited amount of scholarship funds available each year. As of March 1, we are no longer accepting scholarship applications for 2022 self-guided field trips.

The Details

Reservations for self-guided field trips are based on capacity, so spots are limited. Denver Zoo will allow up a limited number of bus parking spots per day, which you can reserve at the time of your booking. No additional bus parking will be available once it's sold out, so please plan accordingly.

Follow the instructions below to reserve your field trip! If you're looking to visit on a date that isn't available on the calendar, we do not have space available on that date. Please find another date for your group.


To be eligible for disounted school admission rate, a group must

  1. Visit during designated field trip months
  2. Have status as an accredited public, private or charter school in session
  3. Be a preschool following an academic curriculum or other school-based program (ie. homeschool programs)
  4. Teacher or school staff must be in attendance with the group
  5. If you do not meet these requirements, you will need to pay general admission to visit


To reserve, please use the following steps:

  1. Click here or on the "Register Now" button below to be taken to our self-guided field trips tickets page
  2. Select the date you'd like to visit us with your class. If a date is unavailable, we are unable to accommodate your group. Please select another date to visit.
  3. Select the # of participants, including chaperones/teachers.
  4. Select the number of buses that will be staying onsite during your visit.
  5. Complete your school's information and your contact information.
  6. Make payment based on # of participants. If you are unable to pay at the time of your reservation, please email
  7. Once processed, you will receive an email with the # of tickets requested. You'll also receive an email with more information on your day at the zoo.
  8. Enjoy the day! Visit the zoo at your own pace and enjoy the daily schedule of demonstrations and programs.

Chaperone Policy

Compliance with this policy is required to remain eligible for discounted school group rates.

  • One adult per 10 students is REQUIRED for all groups (ECE-Grade 12).
  • Chaperones are able to make a reservation using their zoo membership if they would like to join the field trip
  • Additional adults and children entering the zoo before or after the school group must pay full admission price upon arrival. Chaperones must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Chaperones must stay with their assigned group at all times.
  • Adults bringing younger siblings/babies in strollers are welcome but may NOT be counted as chaperones and must pay full admission prices or use their memberships. Extra children are subject to full admission prices.


You will receive an email before your visit with more details and information, including a map.

  • Buses will enter our East Lot from 23rd St. and will be directed to a parking spot by a staff member. Please do not enter through the main entrance at Steele St.
  • After parking, a staff member will check you in and provide instructions along with wristbands for all members of your group. Buses should not unload until a staff member has checked them in.
