How To Train Your (Zoo) Animal
2nd-3rd Grade
Camp Description
Positive reinforcement is the perfect training method for primates, pachyderms, and parrots! Training animals can be challenging and requires a lot of patience and problem solving. Are you up for the challenge?
Day Overview
**Schedule Subject to Change. Ask your camper the questions below to learn about their day!
Question of the Day
Can you design a new Bird Demonstration space that allows birds to fly around, but not fly away? BONUS: Can you have the Bird interact with the audience?
Zoo Exploration
Outdoor bird exhibits. What clues did we learn about the bird enclosures? How did this help us design a new type of demonstration space?
Animal Experience
What animal did we meet in our classroom? How did they help us think about our Question of the Day?
Engineering Challenge
Campers design a new demonstration space that allows birds to fly around, but prevents them from flying away. What did we create? Why does our solution work?
Further Exploration
What other areas of the zoo did we explore? Did we see other examples of animal training at the Zoo today?
Taking It Home
How does training help both the animals and their zookeepers? How could you apply what you learned about training to animals at home?
