Wear Sunscreen

Outdoor adventures are more fun when your skin is protected. Before you head out, pack sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to help prevent sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer. Long-sleeved shirts and pants, a brimmed hat and sunglasses can also help protect your skin and eyes as you explore, whether the forecast says sunshine or clouds.

Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands with soap and water is one of the best ways to help prevent the spread of infections, including colds and the flu.

Here’s how to do it well:

  • Wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap
  • Rub your hands together with the soap and lather.
  • Scrub for at least 20 seconds, including the backs of your hands, palms, under your nails and between your fingers.
  • Rinse well under clean, running water.
  • Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet and exit the restroom.

Fuel Your Body

Build healthy eating into your daily itinerary. Enjoying tasty food is part of the fun when you’re out and about but with all healthy choices, it’s about balance. For example, if you’re looking forward to a hearty dinner, you can eat lighter, plant-based foods during the day. Consider packing your own healthy snacks like apple slices, celery sticks, carrots or snap peas to keep your energy up while you explore.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated can help you feel your best as you move through the Zoo, while dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches and more serious health concerns in severe cases.

A few easy ways to stay on track:

  • Bring a full water bottle with you on the go.
  • Track your water intake and set reminders to drink more.
  • Aim for a common recommendation of six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water or other fluids each day.

Stay Active

Physical activity is one of the best things you can do to get fit and stay healthy. It helps you feel stronger and have more energy. It can help you lose fat, build muscle and reach a weight that’s healthy for you. Being active may also help you feel better, sleep better and focus.
