Happy #NationalZookeeperWeek! Today weβd like to highlight the passionate Animal Care Specialists who care for the critters who call Tropical Discovery and Stingray Coveβ’ home!
Tropical Discovery staff consist of nine Animal Care Specialists who all have a wide variety of interests and expertise. These animal experts care for over 300 species and 2,000 specimens of reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates and mammals. These experts can go from training a capybara, diving a fish exhibit, identifying boreal toads, or handling a venomous snake all in one day of work!
Stingray Cove has a team of five Animal Care Specialists all dedicated to providing the best care for our sharks and rays. Whether it`s hopping in the pool for behavioral training sessions, creating unique and engaging enrichment, or prepping diets, this team is dedicated to the health and happiness of the elasmobranchs in their care!

Today for #NationalZookeeperWeek we`re highlight our incredible Night and Float Teams!
The Night Team includes Disa, Becky, and Erin who have been transforming the role for the past several years to an engaging, collaborative and integral part of the overall Animal Care Team. Unlike many of the staff who work during the day, they are responsible for every animal and all the facilities when the sun goes down. While everyone else is fast asleep, their nights are busy feeding, medicating, enriching, monitoring and ensuring the comfort of all the animals around the Zoo. Every single night, this amazing team of caregivers provides the very best care to animals across the Zoo.
Our Float Team has grown in the past few years to include six full-time specialists who provide comprehensive support to all our animal care teams. Anton, Austin, Christa, Jessi, Kate, and Rhonda contribute in a multitude of ways, including husbandry, staffing coverage, enrichment, staff and animal training, marketing and social media support, and developing animal tours and visitor experiences. The variety of their roles with both staff and animals ensures that we have very dedicated Float Specialists who play a critical role in our animal care.
