Happy #WorldVeterinaryDay, a day dedicated to celebrating the veterinary profession and the lifesaving worked performed by these experts!
Did you know that DZCA has a team of five full-time veterinarians? Four are Board-Certified Specialists in Zoological Medicine™ and are experts in the clinical care of zoo and wildlife species. Out of the approximately 300 Board Certified Specialists in Zoological Medicine™ around the world, we’re honored that these distinguished veterinarians—Dr. Jimmy Johnson, Dr. Jennifer Hausmann, Dr. Spencer Kehoe and Dr. Dan Cutler—work right here at DZCA! Also part of this passionate and dedicated team is Dr. Sushan Han, a Board-Certified Veterinary Pathologist, whose specialty is investigating and understanding the diseases that threaten wildlife.
Together, they exemplify our commitment to advancing the care of our animals and furthering the field of zoo and wildlife medicine through innovation and scientific understanding. From tiny tree frogs to Asian elephants, our Veterinary Medicine team ensures that every one of our animals receives the absolute best care possible.
You may be able to catch our Vet Med team in action next time you visit our state-of-the-art Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Animal Hospital. Please join us in thanking them for all their hard work in the comments below!
🐧 Happy #WorldPenguinDay! We can`t think of a better way to celebrate than by shouting out our incredible African penguin flock at Pinnacol African Penguin Point, presented by @pinnacol.
As the first animal habitat you encounter when you walk through our gates, these charismatic birds set the tone for everything Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance is about: wonder, connection, and conservation in action.
Our dedicated Animal Care Specialists work tirelessly as part of the AZA Species Survival Plan (SSP) to improve the genetic diversity of African penguins, one of the world`s most Endangered seabirds, helping ensure a healthy, sustainable population for generations to come. 🌊
Stop by Pinnacol African Penguin Point today, meet the flock, and learn how you can support African penguin conservation!

🌿 Happy #ArborDay! Today we`re celebrating the work of the Browse program and the animals who depend on trees every day for their nutrition, enrichment and overall wellbeing.
Our Browse Program provides year-round access to fresh leaves, branches, bark, and logs to over 25 species across the Zoo — nearly 1,000 pounds of leaf material every week, rain or shine, winter or summer. For many of our animals, browse is an essential part of their diet and natural behaviors.
But what makes this program really special is how it continues to grow. By prioritizing sustainability, partnerships and resource efficiency, the team has developed a holistic program that is more environmentally conscious while maintaining the highest nutrition standards for our animals. In the summer of 2025 alone, we recycled over 12,000 pounds of tree trimmings and removals sourced from local partners, turning what would have been organic waste into nourishment for our animals. 🌳
Good for our animals, good for community, good for the planet. That`s something worth celebrating today.

Greetings from Peru! Dr. Jimmy Johnson, Senior Director of Wildlife Health and Conservation, and Brian Aucone, Chief Conservation Officer, are on the ground at Lakes Titicaca and Junín — visiting our field conservation partnerships and the incredible wildlife we`re working together to protect.
From Andean condors and flamingos to the remarkable Lake Junín frog and the Titicaca water frog, DZCA has been partnering with local communities and governments since 2012 to save some of the world`s most vulnerable species. 🐸🦩
Come see our Titicaca water frogs, condors and flamingos for yourself during your next visit and know that your support helps protect them in the wild, too.
Join us in saving wildlife together. 🌿
