Camp Description

Denver Zoo has some pretty amazing habitats, but even animals can sometimes use a little home improvement! Can your camper become an exhibit designer by constructing some unique solutions to help our residents?

Day Overview

**Schedule Subject to Change

Question of the Day

AM: How can we keep flies away from Rain, Puddle, and Drizzle? PM: Build something that we could use to keep flies away from ourselves/our homes.

Zoo Exploration

Cape Buffalo, Hippo, and Rhinos. What did we see? Why are flies a problem? How do the animals/keepers usually deal with them?

Animal Experience

What animal(s) did we meet in our classroom? Why did we meet the ones we did?

Engineering Challenge

Campers design a method for keeping flies away from the Cape Buffalo! Then, apply this to find a way to keep flies away from us. What did we design and how does it work?

Further Exploration

How did we explore the Question of the Day further? What areas of the zoo did we explore in the afternoon?

Taking It Home

What do we like about insects now that we spent some more time with them? What don’t we like? How are insects important?

  • Please review IMPORTANT INFORMATION, as well as our Policies and Procedures, to ensure you and your child are ready for camp.
  • Campers must bring a lunch, water bottle, and dress for the weather (plus lots of walking!). As most animal exhibits are outside, we WILL go outside every day.
  • A photo ID is required every day at pick up. Please notify the staff ahead of time if someone who is not on the authorized pick-up list will be picking up your child.
  • To contact us during the day, add authorized pick-ups, or to arrange a late arrival/early pick-up, call the Guest Care Center at 720-337-1400.
